What it does

Turn animated WebP files into GIFs that play everywhere, keeping the original speed of every frame.

Animated WebP files are common on the web, but many apps, forums and editors still only play GIF. cextool converts animated WebP to GIF in your browser, keeping the original speed of every frame and building a palette that keeps the colours as close as GIF allows.

GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame, so very colourful animations may show slight banding, and the GIF is usually larger than the WebP. Lower the width in More options to keep it light, or choose MP4 in the same menu if the destination plays video. The converter builds a palette from the frames themselves and dithers gently, so gradients stay as smooth as GIF allows and flat colours stay clean. Frame delays are copied one by one, so the animation keeps the exact rhythm of the original.

This page is for animated WebP. A still WebP has no frames to animate, so convert it to PNG or JPG instead. Everything runs on your device, and nothing is uploaded.

Questions

Does the GIF play at the same speed?
Yes. Each frame keeps its original delay.
Why is the GIF bigger than the WebP?
GIF is an older format with 256 colours per frame and weaker compression, so the same animation takes more bytes.
Can I convert a still WebP to GIF?
No GIF animation is made from a single image. Convert a still WebP to PNG or JPG instead.
Is transparency kept?
Yes, as GIF transparency: each pixel is either fully transparent or opaque.
Can I make the GIF smaller?
Yes. Lower the width in More options, or run the GIF through the GIF compressor afterwards.
