What it does

Turn heavy GIFs into animated WebP files that keep the motion and transparency in a fraction of the size.

GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame and stores animation inefficiently, so GIFs get heavy fast. Animated WebP keeps full colour and transparency and is usually much smaller, which makes it ideal for websites, stickers and anywhere that accepts WebP.

cextool converts every frame with its exact delay, so the animation plays at the same speed. Pick a destination under Fit for and cextool aims for that platform's size limit. Drop several GIFs to convert them all at once. Because every frame keeps its full colours, gradients and photos look smoother than in the original GIF, without the dithering noise GIF needs to fake extra colours. Lower the width in More options to save even more.

Conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. If an app doesn't play WebP, MP4 is the other small option in the same menu. Your original GIFs are never changed: you always download new WebP copies, and you can keep the GIF for apps that still need it.

Questions

Is transparency kept?
Yes. Animated WebP supports transparency, so transparent areas stay transparent.
Does the WebP play at the same speed as the GIF?
Yes. Every frame keeps its original delay.
Where can I use animated WebP?
All current browsers, many websites and WhatsApp stickers. Some older apps only play GIF or MP4.
How much smaller is WebP than GIF?
It depends on the animation, but WebP is often half the size or less, with better colour.
Can I convert many GIFs at once?
Yes. Drop several GIFs; each one is converted with the same settings and you can download them together as a ZIP.
